Trutta Special Collection
The Trutta Special Collection comprises a limited edition of eight exquisite lures. Each lure is meticulously handcrafted from silver and adorned with gold details and a vivid red ruby.
The Trutta Special Collection was envisioned by metal artist Joonatan Mäggi, who sought to merge his passion for fishing with art. Inspired by the patterns of British hunting culture, Mäggi collaborated with engraver and blacksmith Olav Surva, and later with jewelry artist Miikael Danieljants on materials and finishing. Mäggi has previously combined his hobbies with metalwork in pieces such as “Piiritletus” and “Kohtumine Bachiga”.

Released to celebrate the brand’s eighth anniversary, the Trutta Special Collection transforms a functional fishing tool into a work of art. The pieces are based on Esox Lures’ popular Trutta model, originally designed in collaboration with local anglers by a professional Estonian metal artist. The name “Trutta” derives from Salmo trutta, the Latin name for sea trout. The lure itself has repeatedly proven its effectiveness in catching sea trout, salmon, and garfish.

Particular attention should be given to the engraving technique. Scrollwork – a flowing ornamental style – is one of the oldest and most enduring forms of metal hand engraving. Its roots stretch back to antiquity, where the acanthus leaf motif symbolized beauty and vitality. Over the centuries, scrollwork has adapted to different styles and eras, remaining a hallmark of craftsmanship and individuality. Today, it stands as a symbol of luxury and artisanal mastery – each pattern is unique, like the artist’s signature.

The Trutta Special Collection comprises a limited edition of eight exquisite lures. Each lure is meticulously handcrafted from silver and adorned with gold details and a vivid red ruby. The hook is cast from 750 gold and crowned with a diamond. The lures are engraved using traditional scrollwork hand-engraving, characterized by intricate leaf and spiral motifs. This technique is steeped in tradition and is famously seen on classic British hunting rifles. Each lure is presented in a Makassar ebony box accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and the artists’ signatures.

This exclusive collection is designed for those who value uniqueness and high-quality Estonian craftsmanship. It appeals both to serious collectors and to passionate anglers for whom fishing is a way of life.

The creators of the collection are Estonian Academy of Arts graduates Joonatan Mäggi, Olav Surva, and Miikael Danieljants. The ruby was cut by Sander Priks of Estonian Gem Factory, and the Makassar ebony box was crafted by Robin Pachel.
